She then continued to give details and examples of these tactics. He states most of the successes of Cisco and how well they have done in the past. In the 1990's he predicted that the networks would transform the world and make everything like communication easier. His next prediction is that Web 2.0 would be the next step in changing the way the world works. He describes this by saying "The internet content will find me; I will not search for it." Web 2.0 will improve collaboration, business processes, and productivity. It worked out well for him, but when the company was going down, anything could have happened. Since it worked out for him, he is looked as a hero and a smart decision. If it failed however, the criticism would have been much worse than the glory he received. Even though other companies have tried out the open source idea, I still believe the risk outweighed the benefit.

Even though I do believe this to be a risky decision, the fact the mass collaberation is a powerful tool is also proven here. A weak company was turned into a giant by simply sharing their problem and asking for help from anyone who wanted to listen and anyone who wanted to gain the reward. Many companies like Ebay and Amazon are already reaping the benefits of mass collaberation and many other businesses, despite how traditional is it, should be looked into.

Peer Innovation and Production

I found it very interesting that a company like IBM, who probably had how things are done set in stone, would try to venture out into the open source market. I also thougt it was really cool for Daniel Frye to "unplug everyone from the network" of what they were used to. To make them learn Linux by using Linux constantly. This made IBM have no choice but to learn how to use it and how to fix any probelms had arrised. Once they became professional of the Linux system, they would be able to implement it and even produce software for the operating system. This way IBM was making money off of something that people using Linux wanted for free. It also made the customer happy to pay the price for the software because seeing software compatible for the free operating system would be very convenient for the users.

Blogging Assignment #1

Google

Google uses the web development platform as cloud computing. The reason for this is due to the fact that people around the world are trying to use less fuel. Another reason is that there is becoming a short supply of fuel around the world. BP found new and innovative way to drill oil rather than the standard, "Drilling straight down into the ground".

Just a few of the new technological adoptions they have made for better efficiency are horizontal drilling, fracturing the rocks, lower salt content to water flushing, injecting carbon dioxide into wells, and finally sending in micro-organisms. These are just a few of the new technology adoptions that BP has implemented into the process of drilling their oil to save both time and money.

http://www.bp.com/sectiongenericarticle.do?categoryId=9021505&contentId=7040002

4th Day of Nonclass

So missed my first class today due to my freaking house losing electricity.
